Burkhard Driest, born on April 28, 1939 in Stettin. He died on February 27, 2020 in Berlin.
He became known for his screenplay for “Die Verrohung des Franz Blum”, which describes his time in prison from 1965 to 1970, for which he was sentenced for a bank robbery. He committed the crime one day before graduating from law school.
After his success with the film, Driest continued his career as an actor and screenwriter and taught at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin.
In addition to the highly acclaimed Die Verrohung des Franz Blum, he wrote five crime novels about Chief Inspector Toni Costa. He has also written numerous short stories, screenplays, two librettos, and a play.
After living in the USA and Ireland, Burkhard Driest has lived in Ibiza and Berlin.
