Detlef Michel,born in 1944 in Turckheim (Alsace), studied German, sociology, and psychology in Tübingen, Munich, and Berlin. He was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SDS) during the student revolt and initially belonged to Kommune I. He received his doctorate in 1973.
From 1976 to 1982, he co-edited the legendary Berliner Hefte magazine. He wrote award-winning screenplays for feature films and television. With Volker Ludwig, he wrote plays for the Grips Theater, including the cult pieces “Eine linke Geschichte” (A Left-Wing Story) and “Ab heute heißt du Sara” (From Today Your Name Is Sara).
Detlef Michel lives in Berlin.
